Business success requires taking control and staying focused. Things don’t just happen; things occur because you have a clear intention and you are spending regular time working on your business, as opposed to working at it. This business kickstarter will help you define and keep that focus:
Let’s Get Focused
Create a verbal picture of your successful business. What does it look like? What are you doing? What are you earning? What benefits are you giving and receiving? What are your feelings about it? What values in business are important to you? Write this description with specifics, so that you would know if you have it. This is your Business Vision.
Study this mind map as a guide to creating a visual Business Plan. You can find the Business Profile Mind Map here so you can print it if you wish.
Write a short description of the current reality in your business. Include both the positive and the negative. This will give you some ideas about what has to happen next.
Decide on two things you can do right now to start moving toward your vision.
Once those two things are accomplished, review your vision and current reality. What else needs to happen now? Keep repeating this cycle.
Think of yourself as a successful entrepreneur. Accept total responsibility for your future. Above all, take action. Action always brings forward more possibilities.
Be creative! Look for ways to do things better, faster, and more economically. Always consider the options and look for solutions. Look at problems as opportunities. Commit to becoming excellent at what you do. “Under-commit and over-deliver!”
Tell others about your business vision. Ask for advice and help from already successful people. Seek a coach. Associate with winners and people you admire. Avoid negative people.
Develop the habit of planning your work a week at a time. Keep a written daytimer/to-do planner. Be sure to post the items that are important to your business first. Schedule other activities around those important items.
Continually expose yourself to personal development opportunities. Read inspirational books. Discuss ideas with friends and colleagues. Attend workshops and seminars. Commit to a life of continuous learning.
Become a mentor to others. Give freely what you have learned. This is how business leaders are born!

This Mindset Monday post is presented by LowellAnn Fuglsang, Business and Career Coach, especially for solopreneurs.
In my workstyle-lifestyle coaching work I love helping solopreneurs find direction, stay motivated and build systems that both support and promote their business. One support that I like to emphasize for them is the Google experience. Two great places to begin are my Weekly Being Your Own CEO Success Circle and The Portable Business Coach (a tool that will tell you where you need to put more time and energy)
